My Chromakey Flat

Earlier today, I purchased a chromakey green muslin screen from Amazon.com. (At no cost to me thanks to several unused gift certificates.) I’m tinkering with the idea of producing a weekly vlog. Much more dynamic than static text and far more interesting than listening only to the sound of my voice. Don’t get me wrong. I love my blog. But, it would be interesting to spice things up every now and again.

Gambling Addiction

In 1920, W.E.B. Du Bois wrote, “On the contrary, it is not the Inventor, the Manager, and the Thinker who today are reaping the great rewards of industry, but rather the Gambler and the Highwayman.” How little has changed. Speculators continue to reap the benefits of industry. Disproportionately so. The ability to make money on money (and ever more exotic financial instruments) reinforces this concentration of wealth.

Playing with Sound

The windscreen for my Samsung condenser microphone came in the mail today. The improvement in sound quality is remarkable. No more popping, hissing, or annoying reverberation. (The echo in my apartment is terrible.) The only thing left is to make a DIY shock mount this weekend and I’ll be ready to begin podcasting - about 5 years too late.

Already I’m finding this service to be far more useful and user friendly than FriendFeed and similar services. I especially love the private dashboard, with integrates e-mail and other tools.
